Engle Motors’ Custom 2012 BMW S1000RR Drag Race Bike – 2013 HoAME Show

Clymer Manuals got a close-up look at the Engle Motors BMW & Triumph custom built BMW S1000RR drag bike at the 2013 HoAME Vintage Motorcycle Show. This German superbike was drawing crowds in the parking lot just standing still.

Clymer Girl and the crew didn’t have to go far to attend the HoAME show and rally, as it was just up the road at the Kansas City Airline History Museum in the Downtown Airport. The show was packed with classic vintage and antique motorcycles including British, German, Japanese, Italian, and American makes, all on display. 1967 BMW R50/2 Classic Boxer – 2013 HoAME Show Winner Best BMW

Until the late 1960s, BMW was still making bikes that looked and performed much like the slow but durable touring bikes they were known for before WWII. For the uninitiated it is hard to place this 1967 R50/2 historically and it was a bit of a modern classic even then. This particular bike, as seen as the 2013 HoAME Vintage Motorcycle Show, wears white with black pinstripes, the reverse of the typical color scheme, which helped it win best BMW.

1970 BMW R75/5 Classic Airhead Boxer – 2013 HoAME Motorcycle Show

It is hard to imagine a time when BMW motorcycles were though of as old-fashioned and slow, but before the/5 like this one came along that was the general consensus. These days the 75/5 is a classic, as seen as the 2013 HoAME Vintage Motorcycle Show, but in the early 1970s it offered cutting edge power, handling, and reliability.

Stunter Teach McNeil Shows Off on BMW Motorcycles – 2013 HoAME Rally

Clymer Manuals On the Road visits the 22th Annual Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts (HoAME) Vintage Motorcycle Rally. Not only did the show feature classic, antique, retro, bikes, both custom and restored, but also a stunt show by Chris “Teach” McNeil. Professional stunter McNeil makes drifting, wheelies, stoppies and the like look easy on his specially prepared BWM S1000RR, and F800GS stunting bikes.

David Howell’s 1976 BMW R90S Airhead Boxer – 2013 HoAME Show

Clymer Manuals got a close-up look at David Howell’s 1976 BMW R90S at the 2013 HoAME Vintage Motorcycle Rally. This Bavarian superbike, sibling to the one which Reg Pridmore used to win the first AMA title, was part of the 70’s and 80’s superbikes display at the event.

The BMW R90S was their flagship sport bike from its introduction in 1974, with its distinctive bikini fairing and two-tone fade paint job. The engine was an evolution of the older 75/6, but with a larger bore, higher compression, better breathing, and Del’orto carburetors fitted with accelerator pumps. In the special Dayton Orange paint, this bike really woke up the staid conservative BMW lineup at the time.… Read the rest

The 3rd Annual Women’s Motorcycle Show – L.A., CA

The third annual Women’s Motorcycle Show put on by Moto Lady and the Lucky Wheels DIY Garage in L.A., happened this past weekend and it was so much larger than expected it got raided and shut down by the police. It seems they thought there was some street racing going on, or possibly that it was a big outlaw biker club rally. Nevertheless, everyone had a good time and some talented ladies got to show off the bikes they had built or at least commissioned.

 

 

 

No matter whether you like new bikes or old, sportbikes or cruisers, there was something for everyone at the show, plus music, welding and blacksmithing demonstrations, snacks, and a raffle with many valuable prizes.… Read the rest
