Born Free 10 Sails Into Oak Canyon Ranch – Silverado, CA 6/23-24/2018

Posted by

Surprisingly, one of the biggest and best annual motorcycle shows, Born Free, is only hitting its tenth anniversary this year. Taking place in the mountains of Orange County, CA, at a cross between a kids summer camp and a KOA, there is plenty of room for people and motorcycles, and few neighbors to upset with your loud pipes.

That is just one part of one of the bike parking lots and at the end of the day when many people had already left! Without a drone, it is impossible to get a real picture of just how many bikes were there.… Read the rest

1971 Honda CB500 Four – 2013 HoAME Motorcycle Show

Posted by

Clymer Manuals liked this 1971 Honda CB500 four so much when we saw it at the 2013 Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts show and rally that we made it the cover bike on our manual. The big Honda CB750 four may get all the glory, but its little brother the CB500 is said to be a much better bike to ride when the roads get twisty.

Clymer Girl and the crew didn’t have to go far to attend the HoAME show and rally, as it was just up the road at the Kansas City Airline History Museum in the Downtown Airport. The show was packed with classic vintage and antique motorcycles representing the best of British, German, Japanese, Italian, and American manufacturers. Some of the brands on display were Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Harley-Davidson, Triumph, BSA, Norton, Indian, Cushman, Vespa, Laverda, Lambretta, Ducati, Matchless, Zundapp, Moto Guzzi, and more.… Read the rest

1978 Honda Hawk CB400A Hondamatic – 2013 HoAME Motorcycle Show

Posted by

Honda had the audacity back in the 1970s to try what few had before, namely, fitting an automatic transmission to a motorcycle.  Considered just an entry level commuter when new, the Hondamatic CB400A, as seen at the 2013 Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts show and rally, is rare to find in nice condition today. The small, light bikes were advanced for their day, and were able to maintain freeway speeds while getting mileage in the 50 mpg range, and still being fun to ride.

Clymer Marine Manuals for Your Boat and Personal Watercraft

Posted by

America knows and loves Clymer for their manuals that keep motorcycles and ATVs running right, but did you know we also have a marine division to keep your outboard motor purring and your PWC jetting? Our sterndrive and inboard motor manuals basically cover everything but the hull and the head for your powerboat or cabin cruiser. A boat is probably the second biggest purchase you are ever going to make, below the cost of your house and often above your car. Unfortunately, a boat is likely the most maintenance intensive possession you are ever likely to own (unless you also own horses), and to protect your investment you need to take care of it before and after every outing.… Read the rest

The BSA Firebird 650 is already a cool machine, but the folks at Barnyard Scraps Restoration took it to another level with subtle improvements to their custom cafe racer. Clymer caught this metal flake beauty on video at the 2013 Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts show.

1954 Matchless G9B Classic British Twin – 2013 HoAME Show

Posted by

The Matchless G9B 500cc parallel twin was one of the best bikes to come out of the UK in the 1950s, and great looking too, like this one at Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts (HoAME) Vintage Motorcycle Rally/Show. A versions of the same model became the G45 factory racer, which won its class at the Manx Grand Prix in 1952, and it later evolved into the G12, like this one.

Mini Bikes and Go-Karts – The Perfect Father and Son/Daughter Projects

Posted by

Father’s Day is coming which has us thinking about our dads and the projects we did together that got us into all things mechanical back when we were kids. If you have been looking for a way to spend time with the kids and teach them valuable skills while having fun, there is nothing better than tackling a kid-sized motor vehicle with them, whether mini bike, go-kart, or pit bike.

The simplest is the traditional mini bike, typically just a bent tube frame, a rub block for a brake, and no suspension. Go-karts are the next rung up the ladder, and in their purest form are just four wheeled mini bikes, rub brakes and all, but can get much more complicated and faster.… Read the rest
