You already know the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the undisputed heavyweight champion of motorcycle rallies, the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. What you may not know is that 2015 marks the 75th rally — and it’s promising to be one of the biggest and best ever. To see why you need to attend, just take a look at some of the planned events.

Drag Racing School, Saturday, August 1st

Sure, the rally doesn’t officially begin until August third, but head out early and learn to drag race from the pros just outside of town at Sturgis Dragway.

75 Years of Sturgis

There’s only one Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The annual event to the small town of Sturgis, South Dakota is a pilgrimage for all things motorcycle related and their many leather-clad fans. 2015 marks the 75th anniversary of the rally, so here’s a brief look back, and a glance at the future.


The first meeting of what would become the famous Sturgis rally was held on August 14, 1938. Clarence “Pappy” Hoel purchased a local Indian Motorcycle dealership in 1936 and formed the Jackpine Gypsies motorcycle club partly as a promotional tool.
